Just a couple of things

Hey all

As most of you no doubt realized by now, I’m gone from Planetfurry. Not permanently, but I am taking a break. A much needed one. Over the years, I have had a rocky relationship with a number of people there, and after receiving a personal message from someone there, a week or so before I left, I decided it was time to go catch my breath. What was in that message will remain between the sender and myself, but suffice to say, it shocked me very deeply and profoundly.

I’m getting better, however, and I expect I’ll be back after about a month away or so. One of the upsides to this staying away, is that I’ve finally begun using my FurAffinity account, which I’ve had inactive for years. That’s always something, I guess. Silver linings and clouds spring to mind.

Now, as for the other thing … I won’t turn this into one of my usual rants. This is more of a tongue-in-cheek moment.

It concerns one of the most bizarre people in Washington today, and I’m not talking about any of the people currently serving in Congress or in the US government. I am talking about a lobbyist. A lobbyist with NO apparent sense of situation.

A lobbyist married to a Supreme Court Justice.

I am, in fact, talking about Mrs. Ginny Thomas. Mrs. Thomas, married to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, is a lobbyist for the Tea Party. She’s also a direct beneficiary of the socalled People’s United-verdict, which her husband helped get through, stating that certain political pressure groups and interest-organizations do not have to disclose where they get their campaign-money from. I doubt I need to point out that this is one of the main stables of an oligarchy … allowing a few, extremely wealthy people to buy power for themselves … but I digress.

That’s not what this is about. This is about something I heard this morning on the Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell.

Mrs. Thomas, a rather heavy set woman with a penchant for being photographed with a foam crown a’ la the Statue of Liberty, apparently doesn’t have a big client-list in Washington. As the guest on the show pointed out, she is specifically someone whom many politicians make a point of stating that they will NOT work with.

This was done in an attempt to show, that Mrs. Thomas was not a credible lobbyist and that in fact, she was slightly laughable. Now, I don’t disagree that her opinions ARE laughable, but what I think I need to point out is, that the United States of America is the ONLY country in the Western World where she could get elected into the body politic by running on that very fact. She could literally put together a political campaign saying: “I’m the person no one in the establishment in Washington wants to work with, vote for me!” and I practically guarantee you, she’d be carried into the House or even the Senate on a wave of popular enthusiasm.

The United States of America … often the self-righteous and ENTIRELY self-styled protector of Democracy around the world … and a country where its own population distrusts and inherently dislikes the very idea of elected representatives so much, that a person can make a career simply by saying “They don’t like me in Washington”.

Think I’m exaggerating?

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury, I bring you … Sarah Palin, a.k.a. exhibit 1.

I wonder how long it’ll be until we have to watch Mrs. Thomas on the speaker’s podium in the Senate or in the House, wearing her foam-crown, spouting Tea Party nonsense.

You know, it strikes me as I write this, that a lot of citizens of the United States of America are so distrustful of democracy, that … hmmm … yeees …

A few years ago, someone asked the ultra right-wing Screaming Mimi, Ann Coulter, a question about what she thought heaven would look like. She answered that it’d look like New York right after the Republican convention, and that any democrats there would share their opinions with Joe Liebermann.

Karl Rove publically stated his intention to create an unbroken, continuous republican rule in the United States. His rethoric left no doubt that while he did not want to outright outlaw the Democratic party, he wanted to marginalize them and make them utterly superfluous.

Hmm …

This all makes me think …

The United States of America is already a two-party system … in fact, I heard a member of Congress describe it as such only a week or so ago. So if you remove one party by marginalizing it and making it totally superfluous … that leaves us with … hmm …

Still trying to think of the right term …

YES! There it is! A one party state!! That’s what you’d get!

With one strong, undisputed leader on top. Someone who can mandate what he wants and who will always get his way because he holds absolute legislative powe …

Wait a minute.

I think I know what this means.

You know how the political extreme right in the United States is claiming that President Obama is really a muslim socialist marxist nazi witchdoctor with a secret bone through his not-so-secret nose (I honestly wish I was exaggerating … oh wait, I am. They haven’t actually claimed he’s got a bone through his nose, that was just a poster at a rally)?

Now it turns out that the voters of the extreme right are secretly ROYALISTS! You GOT it! They are really pining for a return to the heady days of the rule of King George!! A strong man, with ultimate legislative and judicial powers!

Oh, but that’s true … it wouldn’t really be a monarchy. Because a president could still only serve for eight years.

Well, kings do pass away or abdicate, and when they do, a new king is pronounced.

All Hail the Tea Party, supporters of the Kingdom of the United States of America!

Or maybe we shouldn’t hail them. Maybe we should just continue to laugh at them, until hopefully one day, most of them realize how little sense they are making.
