Whaaaat a weeekend!!
What a SPECTACULAR weekend I’ve just had!
Aramis Dagaz’ creator, Daniel … and his sister, Erika … have just left after a most awesome weekend of visiting Denmark.
They arrived Friday. I had spent some time cleaning the house and getting ready, feeling a few butterflies flitting around in my stomach, but when they arrived around three-thirty in the afternoon, it was an instant hit!
They had rented a cottage at the local camping site, but we didn’t spend time there, as the owners are terribly up-tight about visitors paying for a day and a night if they are to visit friends who stays at the camping site. Instead, we went to my apartment for a nice evening meal, pork chops turned over in bread crumbs and eggs, new potatoes and sauce bearnaise. And apple pie for desert. We spent the evening chitterwagging, watching a DVD-movie and generally having a great time. It was a beautiful day and evening too … the first real day of summer we’ve had yet, so as I told them, their timing was impeccable. Saturday they both slept late. The trip the day before from Norway, where Erika lives, is quite long, with sailing and driving meaning they had to get up at three in the morning. So that they needed sleep was pretty obvious.
We went to Aalborg on a gorgeous day, windowshopping and with me telling a bit of the city’s history (not a lot, just a bit now and again) and then for lunch, we went to something called “Jens Bangs Stenhus”, the oldest stone building in Aalborg (an old merchant’s house from 1624 … -huge- place, try looking it up on the net). In the basement, there’s a small restaurant. It’s nothing fancy but the food is both very good, very plentiful and inexpensive. The three of us ate the lunch buffet until our sides nearly split, and we had something to drink with it … and we had to pay 400 kroner between us. That’s about 40 pounds or 65 dollars, for three people. It was a hot-and-cold buffet, with glazed ham, several kinds of potatoes, bread, cheese, fruit, roast beef, pickled herring, fried pickled herring … LOTS of different stuff. We all complained about our stomachs being too full for the rest of the day, too.
Not more so than we had bread and emmentaler cheese for a snack in the evening though.
Sunday was spent at my place. Watching a movie and just talking. It wasn’t an active vacation for them in any way but it was SO great to meet Daniel at last, and to get to meet his sister as well. They’re both -lovely-people, and I hope that Erika, who occasionally has to visit relatives of her husband in Denmark, will come by again when they are in the country anyway. If nothing else, then for a cup of tea and a chat
Well, they just left … and they both said they had a very nice weekend and that “the hospitality has been extraordinary”, so I am hoping it won’t be the last time I get to play hostess to friends I’ve met online.
I hope I’ll get to see them both again soon, at least! It’s rare to find people you get along with that well that quickly!
*bounces around and goes to make a fresh cup of tea*
